It is a popular destination spot in Kerala. It is an attractive hill station destination place in Kannur. It is located near the Kerala –Karnataka border at a height of 4500 ft above the sea level. It is rich in flora and fauna. The major attraction of Pythal mala is trekking. It is a 6km trek to the top of the hill. At the top of the hill you can view the ruins of the palace of the tribal king Vaithalkon. There is a proposal to set up a zoo on the top of the hill station. Many medicinal herbs are available at the top of the hill station. The alluring hill station offers the challenging treks to those inclined to extent their legs. At the top of the hill there is a grassy field inhabited. There is also a watch tower the trekkers can rest under the watch tower. It spread over a 300 acres and which is house of the many migratory birds. The trekkers are remunerated by abundant colorful flora and fauna which is breathe taking view from the top of the hill. The nearby attractions of this hills are the waterfalls, Kappimala village and Kudiyanmala village, which 6km away from the Pythal mala.
