Bekal fort is the largest fort in Kasargod located 16km from the south of Kasargod. It is one of the largest and best preserved forts in Kerala. It spread over an area of 40 acres. The main attractions of this fort are the water tank with its flight of steps, the tunnel opening towards the south, the magazine for keeping cartridge and the broad step leading to the observation tower. From the observation tower you have the ample view of towns around like Kanhangad, Pallikare, Bekal, Kottikulam etc. The observation tower helps to find the smallest movement of enemy and ensuring the safety of port. A charming shallow beach is surrounded by the fort is known as Bekal fort beach has been developed as an exotic beach location by the Bekal Resorts Development Corporation. An attractive walkway has been laid for the tourists to explore the beauty of the coastline and enjoy the spectacular view of Bekal Fort.
