The museum is located at east hill about a distance of 5km from Kozhikode town. The museum is situated near to art gallery which exhibits the praised paintings of Kerala’s adorable artist Sri Raja Ravi Varma and his uncle Raja Raja Varma. The museum and art gallery named after the great Pazhassiraja Kerala Varma (the Lion of Kerala) of the Padinjare Kovilakom of the Kottayam Royal family. He lead the famous Pazhassi revolt against British East India Company. He was shot ead in AD 1805 by the Britishers. The museum is under the State Archeology department of Kerala. The museum displays mural paintings, antique bronzes, ancient coins, models of temples, umbrella stones, diamond cysts (quadrangular burial chambers with capstones), and similar megalithic monuments.
