The cultural repository of Kerala, Kerala Kalamandalam founded in 1927 by great poet Vallathole Narayana Menon. It is located about 32 km from Thrissur on the bank of the Bhrathapuzha river in Cheruthuruthy village. It is the learning center of Indian performing arts. Training of traditional dance forms of Kerala like kathakali, mohiniyattom, koodiyattom, ottam thullal and other arts form like music, drama and other dance forms and various percussion instruments like chenda, maddalam and mizhavu are also conducted here. Kalamandalam follows the gurukula sampradayam. Veteran teachers and highly talented students are the precious wealth. Over the past 78 years it has the great experience in dance training so many internationally recognized artists are trained here for classical dance. The nearest cities are thrissur, guruvayoor and Cochin. The favorable time to visit Kalamandalam is August to March.
