The Munroe Island is a spot surrounded by Kallada river, Ashtamudi lake and Sasthamkotta lake in Kollam district. It is a bundle of eight small islands that moderates migratory birds. It is situated about 27kms from Kollam.The first Community Tourism Programme in the State is supposed to start functioning from this island. The people of the villages make coir by hand along with duck, poultry farm and prawn breeding.
The Kallada Boat Race held here during the 10-day festival of Onam is quite popular. The nearest railway station is situated about 3kms away while the nearest Trivandrum International Airport is at a distance of 84km
